FROM THE PRACTITIONERS: What to Expect During Your First Massage

What to Expect During Your First Massage

By Jennifer Rathbun

Your comfort and relaxation is of the upmost importance during the session.

Before the massage begins, you and your therapist will have a brief discussion about your history and what your needs are for the session.

Then you will undress to your level of comfort. Only the area of the body being worked on will be uncovered, everywhere else will be covered by a sheet. So you can remove all your clothing or keep your underwear on, whatever you prefer. It’s up to you.

You can get a full body massage or you can just focus on a specific issue for the session. If there are particularly sensitive areas or places where it’s not comfortable to be touched, let your therapist know to avoid them.

While on the table, try to stay as loose and relaxed as possible. If you’re tensing up, then the pressure of the massage may be too much. Let us know and we will back off!

Your therapist will check in with you through out the massage about the level of pressure. You can also request more or less pressure at any time during the session. In fact, if you need anything adjusted you should speak up or ask at any time. We try to anticipate your needs, but your experience will always be improved with your input!
